Objectivies and Approach

The objective of this initiative is to support the development of industrial cooperation between Chinese and European industries. It is a continuation of the CIM-China programme. The methodology of work is as follows: some industrial, Chinese or joint Chinese/European projects are defined; a consortium is formed, including Chinese and European researchers and engineers, as well as European suppliers; the subject of each project must be related to advanced applications and approved by the steering committee of the cooperation; the progress of the projects is regularly evaluated.

Progress and Results

Several projects within SECIIM are currently running. Among them the projects Shop Floor Integration, CAD/CAM Integration, Production Management, Industrial Management, Manufacturers/Suppliers Relationship in JIT Environments Using EDI Techniques, and Empowerment Engineering and Quality Training.

Information Dissemination Activities and/or Exploitation

Several seminars and workshops have been organised in both China and Europe. Two issues of an Information Letter have been published. The consortium participated in two important events (the PSE and the European-Chinese conference on Automotive Industry) that took place in Beijing in June 1996. A final workshop will be organised in Europe in 1997 in order to inform European companies of the results of this initiative.

The European consortium of SECIIM has now a direct connection with a very important Chinese programme, the Super-863 High Tech Programme that aims at fostering and sustaining economic and social development in China.
