This project under the TRI-EDI II programme for cooperation between the EU and Canada is an extension of the EDIRA I and II projects carried out under the TEDIS programme. The goal of EDIRA I was to provide an unambiguous identification of EDI Registration Authorities as well as mechanisms for the operation of reliable registration services. This resulted in a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) among the participants. EDIRA II resulted in the setting up of an EDI steering comittee to ensure the management of an EDIRA infrastructure in Europe. The goal of EDIRA-NA is to extend the scope of the European Memorandum Of Understanding to North America, namely to Canada and the US. This entails the analysis and identification of current registration authorities in North America, and the preparation of EDIRA promotional material aimed at North American authorities. This material will also target relevant parties such as VAN providers and ANSI X12 groups.
The work done within this project includes: promotion of EDIRA to US and Canadian audience; amendements to ANSI X12, which is the most used syntax in the US, that were suggested to the EDI Registration steering committee (ESRC) in order to take advantage of the ISO 6523 standard; the organisation of a workshop and meetings; changes of the European MOU, which were presented to the ESRC, in order to meet requirements of international operation.
EDIRA was presented to the Vendor's Committee of the EDI Council of Canada in September 1995, at the meeting of the X12N group that covers all insurance, and at the X12F group that covers finance. It also organised a workshop as a part of the ASC X12 meeting in Alabama in June 1995 and a series of meetings within the context of X12 in Dallas in October 1995.
EDIRA has been one of Europe's main contributions to the evolution of world electronic commerce standard.
