This project deals with short term production planning, more specifically with production scheduling. The activities of the project are based on a scheduling software system called ALDO. The function of the ALDO system is to support R&D, education and industrial applications in the area of scheduling. The work involves the transfer of the ALDO system, including graphics interfaces, data structures and algorithms, to CTI. This will be followed up by courses and workshops in the field of production scheduling and will provide a basis for collaborative research in this area between CTI and the European partners.
The ALDO system has been installed in both CTI and BIBA. Joint research work has been carried out in cooperation with Brazilian researchers and students, based on the single and parallel machines scheduling. Further work was carried out in cooperation with French researchers, based on bi-criteria single machine scheduling problems, and hybrid job-shop scheduling with disturbances. A basic course in production scheduling related areas was organised at CTI, and was attended by students from the Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science (IMECC-UNICAMP) of Campinas, Brazil. Afterwards these students started a research programme at CTI with grants from the Brazilian Research Councils, CNPQ and FAPESP. Partial results from this work have been presented at international conferences and submitted to journals. In parallel with the visits of European researchers to CTI, a conference was organized to facilitate contact with Brazilian industry. Master of Science students at the Applied Mathematics Institute IMAG-INPG, are participating in STERMPROPLAN activities. Research in methodological support for workshop problems based on the CODECO approach has also been carried out.
A conference on the Management and Control of Production and Logistics will be organised at CTI. It will be held from 31 August until 3 September 1997 and will receive sponsorship from IFAC and IFIP.
