The results of the European projects ESPRIT II project No. 2590 IPDES and ESPRIT III project No. 6090 FIRES provided two system prototypes for the semantic, geometric and technological modelling of rotational and prismatic parts. These prototypes were developed by applying the concept of "form feature" to support the integration of the design, planning and manufacturing activities which contribute to simultaneous product development. This action aims to further develop these concepts and their implementation in prototyping for feature-based integrated design. This will be achieved through cooperation and the exchange of experience with the European partners. One of the objectives of the project is the introduction of CAD/CAP/CAM Systems at the post graduate level at UNIMEP in Brazil.
The CAD96 and ENERGEP96 conferences provided occasions at which results of the collaboration on feature based support in CAD/CAM systems, and on management strategies were presented. A seminar on high speed cutting was organised at UNIMEP. This involved the European KIT partners as well as European industry, and was targeted at industry in Brazil.
