Objectivies and Approach

The objective of MIRANDA is the acquisition of 3D echocardiac dynamic images (4D imaging). This comprises the acquisition of temporal sequences of 3D images, endocardium recognition, 3D motion analysis, use of genetic algorithms and parallelisation of the codes used.

Progress and Results

The following techniques have been implemented: parallel data flow base volume rendering (PDFVR); deformable model, endocardium segmentation and 3D reconstruction of the left ventricle; parallelisation of the genetic algorithms used -the optimisation of PDFVR has already started-; construction of the mechanical system with cardiac and respiration synchronisation for the transthoracic echo acquisition; development of the 3D acquisition of apical and parasternal echocardiographic views.

Within this project, a PhD. thesis entitled "Cardiac Motility in 3D Echocardiography" is in progress.

Information Dissemination Activities and/or Exploitation

Results achieved so far have been presented at many international conferences. A list of over ten publications may be acquired from the coordinator.
