The main activity within the project is the development of general software for the solution of numerical problems on MIMD multiprocessors. A special technology called ASSY has been developed to provide successful parallelisation of certain numerical problems. In the framework of this project 3D convective flows in channels and closed cavities are studied, as well as the linear stability of steady and unsteady plane-parallel flows of viscous incompressible fluid. The construction of the fundamental system of solutions is reduced to the solution of a number of independent Cauchy problems which makes it possible to develop parallel codes with minimal exchange of information between processors.
ASSY has been applied to the solution of several numerical problems described by a finite difference system. It has also been applied to the solution of complex problems based on the PIC (particle-in-cell) method. A universal parallelisation of PIC has been developed. The following big problems were solved with ASSY: plasma cloud expansion and the exchange of energy inside the cloud, and numerical simulation of active vibroseismic monitoring of seismic source zones.
The pulsational flow near oscillating solid bodies of different shape immersed in a liquid has been computed using parallel code based on the spectral element method. High efficiency of the parallelisation allowed to obtain detailed results for a wide range of parameters and to find critical conditions governing the transition between different regimes of mean flows. A parallel code for Parsytec PowerXplorer was also developed to study the stability of oscillatory flow of viscous non-uniform fluid.
