The collaboration will focus on the development, evaluation and communication of techniques for multimedia information system design and implementation. It will emphasise performance and scalability of these systems in order to make results applicable by industry.
The collaboration covers five research areas: multimedia/hypermedia data models; multi-level storage models and placement/migration strategies; multimedia data content addressability and indexing structures; parallelism for multimedia retrieval; multimedia information synchronisation and multimedia interfaces.
European links: ESPRIT BRA projects MIRO (6576) and IDOMENEUS (6606).
Progress has been made in the domain of digital libraries, in methodologies for handling approximate searching by image content in medical image databases and in multimedia modelling. The collaboration has resulted in two Master Theses in the Electronics & Computer Department of the Technical University of Creta.
Within DAIDALOS, a number of lectures on access methods and indexing has been given. (The list of publications may be requested from the project coordinator.)
The work within DAIDALOS has led to the ESPRIT project HyNoDe (22160), Hypermedia News on Demand, in colaboration with the Multimedia Communication Research Laboratory of Canada.
