Objectivies and Approach

The goal of this cooperation is to improve the future Information Infrastructure by:

understanding the full potential of Activity Modelling and Object Technology
promoting the exploitation of Cooperative Information Systems.

Objectives towards the goals will be a sharing of collective knowledge to achieve a better understanding of Object Brokers, Activity Models and Heterogeneity.

Progress and Results

Two workshops (Vienna, December 1995; Vancouver, August 1996) have been organised with the following aims:

to familiarise the partners with the CIS-related models and the technology currently developed at the various sites and to give introductions into the languages and prototypes at hand (i.e. Woorks-UTucs, ALBERT, ConceptBase, Tycoon, NFR, OASIS, NATURE PRO-ART);
to embed and relate the site research into the wider scope of the ESPRIT and other related projects in which the sites are involved;
to critically evaluate and relate the projects at hand in terms of their conceptual and technological limitations, their exploitation potential, the integration challenges, the migration paths etc..

A manifesto for the medium-term needs and potential of the activity modelling and object technology for cooperative systems is currently in progress.

Information Dissemination Activities and/or Exploitation

A third workshop is planned that will take place in Italy in September 1997.
