A "Bottom up" Internet Database on Regional Competition and Cohesion in CEE/NIS Europe

Objectivies and Approach

This project intends to create an on-line regional information system to make regional and socioeconomic data accessible to policymakers, enterprises and scientists across the CEE, NIS and EU countries.

The project has three objectives:

to create a pilot "bottom up" database of economic and social indicators for the analysis of economic competitiveness and social cohesion of regions and groups of individuals.
to analyse the regional and social dimension in the creation of competitive advantages and disadvantages and social cohesion within and between countries.
to use the WWW/Internet to make the pilot information database instantly available to policymakers, businesses, investors and scientists throughout Europe.

The database will contain data at two levels: a general one with national data from Russia and from 11 CEE countries, and a specific one with regional data from Poland and Russia.

The project will be an important aid to CEE/NIS policymakers in identifying multi-dimensional mix of assets and liabilities within regions or social groups and designing policies for multilateral assistance and restructuring.
