The objective of this project is to extend the benefits of the GISIG network to East European laboratories. The GISIG members come from Universities, institutes of research, enterprises, technology suppliers and users, as well as other networks and local bodies active in the area of geographic information systems (GIS).
Activities will include:
European links: The project will be developed in the framework of GISIG, a European Association in the domain of Geographical Information Systems and their applications. The GISIG is a member of EUROGI, the European Umbrella Organisation on Geographical Information, constituted under the DG XIII programme IMPACT.
WELL-GIS manages the GISIG database Inventory of Digital Data in Europe that contains maps and relevant information of many European countries. The network has a mailing list with 395 participants. Within this network, a workshop was organised in Budapest in June 1995 and another workshop, that will take place in Prague, is planned for 1996.
The overall project progress and results will be disseminated and exploited through the GISIG network and through its partnership in EUROGI. Results of the project will be included in the GISIG bulletin, and abstracts of the Special Interest Groups (SIG) activities will be available on GISIG EURONET.
The progress made and the results obtained so far can be found at the network homepage: http://gisig.ima.ge.cnr.it/wellgis.www/wellgis.htm.
