The aim of this project is to develop an integrated system for the design and analysis of machine tool frames. The system is based on a common product model used by existing computer aided design (CAD) and finite element modelling (FEM) software and on flexible communication mechanisms for data exchange. Development of algorithms for the calculation of the non-linear elastic behaviour of guides and pairs of contacting rough surfaces will also be undertaken.
