HIPERION aims to create and demonstrate a European capability for high-performance radio networking for portable computers.
Portable computers will play an ever increasingly important role in business, education and leisure environments in coming years. Communications technologies which permit access to information and services as well as those which enable collaboration and sharing will be fundamental technologies for tomorrow's information based economies. HIPERION seeks solutions to those problems which will enable dynamic creation of ad hoc networks for collaboration and education purposes as well as enable portable and mobile devices to be in communication with existing and future infrastructures. HIPERION will focus its efforts on:
As successful communications are highly dependent on the timely completion of associated standardisation efforts, HIPERION will maintain close links with other relevant ESPRIT projects and relevant international standardisation efforts.
HIPERION's deliverables include systems specification, subsystem modelling and design reports as well as a functional demonstrator and submissions to the ELI being specified by the OMI STANDARDS project.
