Objectives

HORBIT contributes to the start up of the home system market in developing applications for two key areas: hotel and residential accommodation (old people's homes, student residences, etc).

The use of interactive terminals in residential dwellings provides the possibility of creating new services and functions which were previously unobtainable due to the high cost involved.

Intelligent systems which communicate with users and administrators will improve the management and the performance of the residences.

The technical objectives are to: Determine the new services to be developed for users; define the best communication architectures using EHS possibilities; study the new way of communication, interface with users given by the interactive TV capabilities on two test beds - 1. The "Hotel de Paris" - Villard de Lans in the French Alps near Grenoble, 2. "Santa Margherita Residencia" an old people's residence in Portogruaro near Venice.
