The objective of this project is to develop and apply methods and tools for the analysis of core business processes in industrial environments. Core processes, in this context, are the chains of value-adding activities, resulting from a strategic analysis, that provide the competitive advantage of industrial enterprises. They are the sum of those activities that yield fast and in-time delivery of products with high quality and competitive price levels. Typical core business processes are order intake and completion, product development, and the assembly process. Currently available methods and tools to determine company-specific core processes, to transform, control and optimise them are insufficient to cope with demands from rapidly changing environments and the need to rationalise processes.
The task of MOTION is to provide methods, tools and pilot projects for identifying core business processes and which allow an optimisation of the resources involved, including existing IT systems. The approach aims to develop a more integrated approach to business problems by increasing business process visibility and process awareness at all levels of the organisation.
MOTION comprises four main tasks:
Prototypes will be implemented and evaluated in three industrial production facilities.
