predicting, assessing and tuning the performance of advanced information servers
Several methods and associated engineering tools for designers and users of a parallel database server will be delivered by the project. A generalised DBMS simulator will provide system designers with a way of assessing the performance impact of new hardware architectures. An "adaptive performance evaluator" will provide designers of query optimisers with detailed application behaviour, and a SMART performance predictor will enable users to analyse application-specific performance. The Software Test pilot will assist both database designers and users to assess the robustness and the performance of applications running on a prototype.
The early maturity of the prototypes is allowing the consortium to validate their techniques against novel platforms, such as the Goldrush Megaserver (ICL) and strategic applications.
