Objectives

The objective of the PROCESS BASE project is to develop a neutral format for the exchange and management of data used in the design, construction and operation of process plants. It will include the development of prototype interfaces.

The approach will be to:

• draft the requirements specification for a neutral format based on the existing databases of process plants, especially in the nuclear and chemical industries
• use a methodology based on STEP (the standard for exchange of product model data) to improve existing models and develop new models for specified types of data
• develop STEP implementation and data exchange tools, including database implementation tools.

Close communication with industry and relevant standards bodies will be maintained throughout.

Pilot demonstrations at two industrial sites will show data being transferred between general-purpose CAD systems linked with company databases and specialist process plant analysis and design programs. Results will be incorporated in software products marketed by vendor consortium members.
