The objective of the CAPISCE project is to develop a general-purpose architecture and a set of systems for multilevel control for the process industry. This will integrate company operations at strategic, tactical and operational levels to facilitate manufacturing control across a complex network of plants and sites, with decision support for each level of production management.
The main focus of the work will be at the tactical level, where systems will be developed to support the day-to-day running of the plant. These will include modules for resource management, recipe management, inventory management, scheduling, and management reporting and control. Links will be developed between these modules and existing systems for both business and process control. The project aims to develop systems which will be portable across hardware platforms and software environments.
The results of CAPISCE will be demonstrated in pilot implementations in the chemical industry, and could subsequently be applied in the pharmaceutical, food, paper and steel industries. The software vendor member of the consortium will incorporate the results into its product line.
