Objectives

The IDEM project addresses the intersection between two IT application sectors which have far developed independently. These are the Home Systems sector, and the Energy supply sector. The project is therefore concerned with the use of IT and communications to implement various aspects of energy management, which is the main point of interest in this intersection. By this we include:

The project will take a systems approach to the use of information, communications and control technology in the overall management of the energy supply and use in the domestic environment. It will build on the results of earlier and current ESPRIT projects in the Home Systems area, using the components (IC) as well as the HS Specifications V 1.1 as well as subsystems, like the IDEA-TV device.

Concrete results expected at the end of the second phase include:

The ultimate goal is to expand the types of IT-based products that can be sold to the utilities and Energy industries to start up the European Home Systems market. In particular, the initial market segment is related to isolated houses both in North and in South of Europe.
