The objective of INTERACTORS is to design and develop a set of high-level general-purpose direct manipulation objects ("interactors") which can be used as building-blocks in user interfaces for real-time industrial applications such as process control, supervision or simulation. These will be available as stand-alone software components or integrated in a common environment.
The approach will be to develop interactors for integrating live video devices in direct manipulation user interfaces, for browsing across different user interface panels and objects, for handling multiple windows, and for graphical representations of controls and process data. The integration environment will be that developed in the project 5391 HYPERFACE.
Validation of the interactors will be carried out through a demonstrator application involving the remote control of geographically distributed power generation plants, which will exploit all the features provided by the interactors.
The interactors will be marketed as part of an improved HYPERFACE product as well as in the form of separate software products.
