Objectives and Approach

By providing an up-to-date, high-quality and flexible database on all available CIM components, CIMDATA aims to accelerate and optimise the users' search for the most appropriate CIM component. It allows the user to compare a number of selected components on the basis of sufficient details for an informed decision.

The database aims to cover the complete area of CIM, including information on the integration possibilities between CIM components. This makes CIMDATA an ideal tool for selecting CIM components in the wider framework of an integration strategy.

The development of CIMDATA has required substantial interaction amongst the recognised experts in various CIM areas. This has in turn promoted a common understanding of the issues involved an has been fundamental to the process of classification of CIM components. This classification procedures is based on European standards, using unique and predefined parameters.

Progress and Results

CIMDATA provides a one-step source of information on CIM tools and components. This single, European-wide database:

The database is available either by remote access to an on-line database system or by local access to CD-ROM and other mass storage media. The dissemination database will be updated daily in order to ensure that users are informed of all new developments in the CIM arena. Data distributed for local access throughout Europe will be updated at regular intervals, thus providing a less dynamic but equally extensive source of data, while avoiding telecommunications costs.

CIMDATA also benefits the CIM component suppliers by providing a simple method for marketing their components by:

The expertise and information gained as part of the project will be disseminated to a broad public platform using both reports and technical papers as a means of technology transfer. This will benefit the European CIM community at large.
