The objective of this project was to demonstrate that a higher level of efficiency and a greater level of job satisfaction can be achieved by maximising manufacturing planning and control decision-making at the lowest possible levels. Manufacturing efficiency will be increased and job skills and experience will be extended because:

The PMS and OMS were to be linked to form the complete Distributed Manufacturing Planning and Control System.
The project partners expect the project results to have a major impact throughout European manufacturing industry. It is planned to launch a series of products that can be used individually or as an integrated system to solve common problems in the control of small batch manufacture. Whilst the main focus will be on the very large metal-working industry, it is expected that the system will also provide solutions to the problems of many other industries.
