The objective of this project is to develop a large-reach, high-load manipulator to move workpieces or tools precisely in a programmable task execution mode. Important applications for robotics are foreseen, from workpiece handling in new shop-floor layouts to aircraft maintenance and cleaning ships.
In a first step the relevant sub-systems will be specified based on the results of handling task analysis. The second step is component development, leading to the realisation and demonstration of a prototype.
From the results the following outcomes and major benefits can be expected:
A range of hardware and software products are expected to be exploited by the project partners as a result of the work. Spin-offs are expected for application to more conventional robot systems and for non-CIM applications.
